• combined — κάτοικοι Fischereischein, issued for life after passing the Fischereischeinprüfung (§§ 26–27 LFischG). It must be carried and shown on demand, and is valid only once the annual Fischereiabgabe has been paid. Not issued below the completed 12th year of age — "Einen Fischereischein erhalten keine Personen, die das zwölfte Lebensjahr noch nicht vollendet haben" — and younger anglers may fish under the supervision of a licence holder. Licences from other Bundesländer are valid in Schleswig-Holstein as long as the holder's main residence is not in Schleswig-Holstein., μη κάτοικοι Urlauberfischereischein — a time-limited exception from the licence requirement under § 26 LFischG, whose validity "auf 28 hintereinander liegende Tage zu begrenzen ist". In the Küstengewässer it needs no further permit, EXCEPT on the Schlei, the inner Neustädter Bucht, the inner Lübecker Bucht/Travemünde and the Untereider from the B5 road bridge at Tönning to the Nordfeld lock, where an Erlaubnisschein from the holder of the fishing right is required as well. In all Binnengewässer an Erlaubnisschein is always required. People whose main residence is abroad can also obtain a full Fischereischein in Schleswig-Holstein.
• combined — κάτοικοι A Fischereischein is required to fish, and it is issued only after passing the Fischerprüfung. In addition, a Fischereierlaubnisschein for the specific water is required — the Fischereischein alone does not entitle you to fish anywhere. Both must be carried. Rules, fees and the minimum age are set by each Bundesland., μη κάτοικοι Visitors need the same two documents. Several Bundesländer issue a short-term Touristenfischereischein or Urlauberfischereischein without the examination — Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg among them — but not all do, and the conditions differ. Check the Land you intend to fish in before travelling.

Schleswig-Holstein is the only German Land on two seas, and its rules differ by sea as well as between coast and inland: cod is 35 cm and open in the North Sea but banned outright for recreational fishers in the Baltic, plaice is 27 cm in the North Sea and 25 cm in the Baltic. Where FishRadar cannot express that split it shows the stricter answer and states the other in the notes. Catch-and-release fishing is unlawful here (§ 39 LFischG) — fish only if you intend to use the catch. The EU cod and eel bans do not reach four named inner waters (Unterelbe, Untereider, Schlei, Trave), where the state minimum sizes apply instead. Marine recreational fishers must be registered and report catches through the RecFishing app since 10 January 2026. The figures shown here come from the ministry's published leaflet rather than from the ordinance text, which is not machine-readable, and the leaflet says its own lists are "nicht abschließend" — not exhaustive — and can change at any time. You need a Fischereischein or an Urlauberfischereischein, the Fischereiabgabe, and on inland waters an Erlaubnisschein. Always verify with the Schleswig-Holstein fisheries authority before you fish.
